MAsgariParticipantHi. I already posted this on Twitter:
I don’t have a hope to see a change from Signal Hound, as probably you have a new business plan with your new Phase Noise analyzer product, but at least want to express my disappointment as a very happy customer who had plans to buy more SignalHound products:Spike’s analysis features was one of the main reasons people like me (hobbyists or startups) chose Signal Hound over competitors like Tek.
Now I have to stick to an old Spike version to use the phase noise analysis as a hobbyist, which defeats the whole purpose of buying a USB-based instrument. I can’t afford paying 2500$ a year to use a feature that I don’t use daily, for devices that cost 3-5K each.I hope you revise your decision and at least let some basic phase noise analysis remain in Spike for free as before.
I know there was no promise to keep Spike’s advanced features free forever, but as we saw some features like LTE being added for free, I didn’t expect you change the product suddenly!
RVanDykeParticipantI would agree. It seems that those who purchased the SA, BB, and SP series spectrum analyzers likely did not do so to perform high end phase noise analysis. So in my view keeping the old basic functionality for these spectrum analyzers would not prevent users from upgrading to the new tool if they really needed that type of performance and it makes good financial sense. A not so good solution is to keep an old version of Spike around just for Phase Noise.
The new Spike doc suggests the old feature is still available, “…Phase noise can be measured using any single Signal Hound spectrum analyzer, or by using the PN400 phase noise test system…”
I also hope you would reconsider and allow basic Phase Noise analysis as before at least for the SA, BB, and SP series spectrum analyzers.
mneumanParticipantI’m hoping this is a bug or mistake?
I’ve used this feature forever with my BB60C, but I can’t afford $2500/yr for it.
An old version of Spike still will do the analysis I need, but the new version doesn’t.
