AlexHParticipantHi!
I want to measure broadband noise in a range 10 Hz – 1 MHz using the SA44B, so I was looking at the Displayed Average Noise Level (DANL) of our instrument in that range without any input. The data sheet specifies a gradual decline of the DANL from -124 dBm/Hz at 10 Hz to -142 dBm/Hz above 10 kHz. Our instrument gives a flat DANL of -145 dBm/Hz over the entire range right down to 10 Hz and below, only the very first few bins display a higher level.
Is this level real or do we do something wrong? I was expecting some 1/f noise component and a rising DANL for low frequencies, which one usually sees on other spectrum analysers.
Thanks in advance for your comments!

On some devices, the mixer’s 0 Hz feed-through brings up the noise floor close in. It really depends on how well the mixer is balanced. It sounds like you got a well balanced mixer. Your readings are typical, but we can’t guarantee all SA44Bs will perform that well.
