VolkerParticipantIs there any way to use the external trigger to start a sweep ?
I have seen the usage of external trigger in zero span mode but have not found it for normal sweep mode ( only single and auto )
Justin CrooksModeratorIf you need triggered zero span (I/Q) acquisitions, I highly recommend the BB60C. Triggering on the SA44B is very limited and it is easy to lock up the device if you are not very careful.
We intentionally do not trigger sweeps, to avoid the situation where people try to sync a swept signal generator with our spectrum analyzer, because a stepped FFT-based spectrum analyzer, even perfectly synced, is only actively looking at the spectrum a fraction of the time.
The solution is to use our tracking generator, which has firmware to switch frequency at appropriate times for the architecture.
VolkerParticipantYou got me !
I was doing some amplitude sweeps in zero span and thought about
doing exactly what you described in sweep mode…Since I have a network analyser in here there is no real need to do it with the SA44B ( besides documentation that is much more easy than with the good old R&S ).
I also have one of your VSG. What is the reason this one cannot be used as tracking source ?
Volker
AndrewModeratorVolker,
The VSG and SA could be controlled at the software level to step/sweep, but would be very slow. The sync port on the TG is what allows fast step time at the firmware level. This was not part of the VSG design.
