n4rtParticipantI am trying to load the USB serial drivers on my Toshiba laptop (LS5-B5267) running Windows 10.
The installer says the drivers loaded successfully, but when I connect the Signal Hound USB cable, the LED blinks yellow (not solid green) and I get a message on the screen that reads “Sleep and Charge is ready.”
When I go into the device manager with the Signal Hound connected I do not see USB serial converter A or B in the list under “Universal Serial Bus Controllers.” So it acts like the driver did not load or somehow loaded incorrectly.
I’m hoping someone has seen this before and can tell me how to fix it.
Thanks
Ron
AndrewModeratorHi Ron,
Let’s try from the beginning. There is no need to reinstall Spike. Just grab the latest USB driver from this link.
https://signalhound.com/sigdownloads/Spike/CDM%20v2.12.00%20WHQL%20Certified.exe
When you install it, you will want to run it “As Administrator”, you can do that by right-clicking the installer and selecting “Run as Administrator”.
Ensure the Signal Hound device is not connected when you install the driver. The first time you plug it in after successfully installing the driver, it might take a few seconds for Windows to recognize the device.
If you get the solid green LED but Spike still doesn’t recognize the device, look at the FAQ on this page http://www.signalhound.com/Spike at the question “The Spike software reports “Device Not Found” (SA44/SA124/TG44/TG124 only)”.
I look forward to your response.

Andrew
n4rtParticipantAndrew,
I did exactly as you said. Loaded the CDM v2.12.00 driver as administrator and got exactly the same result. The LED on the signal hound blinks orange or yellow and when I launch Spike, it cannot find the device. After installing the driver and getting the message that they are ready to use, I go into the device manager and cannot find USB serial converter A or B under Universal Serial Bus Controllers (yes, the signal hound is connected to a USB port while I checked this).
I also tried all three USB ports on this computer and get exactly the same result with all three.
Any other ideas?
Ron

AnonymousInactiveHi,
I bought a Lenovo X240 core i7 Windows 10 to run SA44B but could not get it to load USB drivers hence intermittent orange LED, eventually having tried all the suggestions on this forum I bought another laptop, a Dell Latitude e6440 core i5 windows 7 ultimate, and was extremely upset to find I have exactly the same issue.
It works perfectly on a Lenovo Yoga Windows 10 so is not the SA44.
I now have 2 reduntant laptops. Any suggestions gratefully received.Regards
Marc
AndrewModeratorMarc,
Can I ask what you mean by “could not get it to load USB drivers”? Did the driver installer fail to complete? Did you run it as administrator?
Check out the other troubleshooting tips on the Spike landing page in the FAQ under the question titled “The software reports device not found (for the SA44B)”
Particularly, if you have any anti-virus running (pre-installed on these PCs such as Norton/McAffe) either disable or uninstall if you don’t plan on using them. Also the “Load VCP” issue can cause the issue you are seeing.

I look forward to your results.

AnonymousInactiveHi Andrew,
I have now tried everything suggested on this forum on both laptops to no avail. After installing CMD v2.12.00 WHQL I see USB serial converter A and B, but when I connect the SA44B they disappear. Yes I am running as administrator. I also have no advance option for ULSB serial converter A and B.
Any other ideas?Marc
AndrewModeratorMarc,
I have sent you an email.
