w5dacParticipantI’m trying to make sure I purchase an adequate PC to handle all of the BB60C’s capabilities.
Wanting to use a 2n1 style ultrabook form factor so I can operate a touchpad for handheld field direction finding/interference hunting. Looking at most of the current(last year and newer models, the 6th gen i7 6500 series proc’s appear to be 2 core/4 thread with 8 gigs Ram, SSD’s, ect.
Is this acceptable or do you suggest only 4 core processors?
Is there a list of known, good mobile PC’s to use with the BB60C?Thanks
Danny
KB0NEParticipantJUST SOME THOUGHTS:
The biggest problem seems to be with the Video/graphics that is used in the computer. You need to do a little searching to make sure you have a good-to-go video card since I have seen a couple hiccups reported in this forum regarding vid problems.
Of course USB 3 is a must to get best performance.
I’d recommend getting a computer with SSD (Solid State (hard) Drive). Or retrofitting one. Makes a lot of difference in performance in general.
2 core is fine, 4 core probably give a slight boost in throughput. 48 core is a waist. 😉
AndrewModeratorHi Danny,
I’ll add to what KB0NE said.
For the latest Intel processors, the dual core i5 and i7 processors are good enough to run our software. If you plan on running other heavyweight software in parallel with ours you should consider the higher end processors. The latest Intel processors also have integrated graphics capabilities which are more than adequate for our video requirements. People run into issues with video requirements on old hardware (>5-10 years old). You shouldn’t have to worry about this.SSDs are common and nice in laptops now, but they are not required for our software.
Let me know if you have further questions.

A.J.
