llevittParticipantIs there a procedure to measure the noise figure of a downconverter where the RF input frequency is greater than the spectrum analyzer maximum input frequency but the IF output falls within the spectrum analyzer frequency range?
It would be great if the Signal Hound noise figure capabilty evenutally matched a stand alone noise figure meter (e.g. HP8970) that has mode definitions depending upon the DUT type (see attached menu from the HP meter).
Justin CrooksModeratorllevitt,
I’ve never tried this, but here are my initial thoughts. It seems to me that if you mapped your noise source’s ENR from RF to IF frequencies, then mapped the result back to RF frequencies, it might just work. It probably requires that image responses are sufficiently filtered, and that gain + ENR is in a reasonable range (15-35 dB?) to reduce the effect of the analyzer’s noise floor and compression.- AuthorPosts
