AndrewModeratorHello Roger,
We are working on the 32-bit version right now. Expect it within a week. It will be on the downloads page.
Regards,
A.J.
AndyParticipantThanks Andrew. You guys are really on the job now. Can I just say a big thankyou for finally giving the SH hardware the software it deserves. It really is a pleasure to use (after a steep re-learning curve!), whereas before it became a real drag. (insert thumbs-up smiley here).
BTW, what was wrong with the jpg save? I found that if I did a search for the filename of the missing jpg, it reported that it was right there in the SH directory, but it was not visible!
ChrisParticipantLove the Spike Software.. Thank You!! Any hope of getting the Broadcast Masks in Spike?
hendorogParticipantHi guys,
First, thanks for all of your hard work. Andy hit the nail on the head just above – its been a revelation seeing how polished this software is, and how the hardware can really perform.Second, I’ve found a few issues and have a couple of suggestions which I better write down before I forget:
* The spectrogram on/off state isn’t restored in the preset.
* Realtime mode limits the Span to 100kHz min. But this limit can be bypassed by going to Sweep mode, reducing the Span, and then selecting Realtime mode.
* Spike crashed on me a couple of times when switching from Real time to Zero Span, but I can’ reproduce that now.
* I think that the 3-D spectrogram should interpolate samples to form a ‘continuous wall’ instead of a ‘row of spikes’
* I’d like to be able to subtract and add traces to/from each other, which could be done in the old software
* I used the old software on a Parallels VM on a Mac and it worked fine – although sometimes the Suppress Errors helped when switching in and out of the VM .
In the same environment Spike starts up and appears to work, but dies part way through a scan with a Device Connectivity Error. I can’t find the Suppress Errors option anywhere. So its not usable for me in that environment.Cheers,
Roger
MarkParticipantHallo Andrew
FYI, I have exactly the same problem as tomh with downloading the calibration file, my serial is D11310006 so it is not starting with a zero…
I manually placed the calibration file from a previous installation in the cal_files directory and Spike seems to like it 😀Strange thing is that i had the same error a few years back when installing SignalHound v2.18b, after looking in the calibration it seems to be an 404 error page, i remember it was hosted by HostGator!…

AndrewModeratorChris, Thank you for positive feedback and the suggestion.
Andy, It was a missing JPG plugin for the Qt framework we are using. I will look forward to hearing if including the plugin fixes the issue for you.
Roger, Thank you for the feedback and the many suggestions. We appreciate it. I wanted to make a note on virtualization on the Mac. I do not believe at this point we will be offering any support for those who are running Windows in a VM. If you are receiving the Device Connectivity Error in Spike then this means that real data loss has occurred (e.g. USB packets dropped). It sounds like the suppress error function in the old software might have been hiding the issue.
Mark, Just to clarify, you have managed to get the software running by dropping in your calibration files from the old software? If you still need your calibration files, you can go here https://signalhound.com/custdata/P1131/

A.J.
hendorogParticipantHi AJ,
Yes I understand that you don’t want to support the many VM implementations around.
Regarding the old software in the VM – it worked fine without the suppress error option turned on. That option did help however when the VM was minimised – i.e. when I was using a native application. Presumably there were less resources dedicated to the VM.
The difference is this; In the old software, when a comms error occurred the connection to the SA was recovered automatically. Whereas the new software disconnects when there is an error and needs to be reconnected from the File menu.
In a nutshell – I’d rather give you guys my $$ for a TG than give it to someone else for a dedicated Windows machine for this 🙂Cheers,
Rog
AndrewModeratorskylight,
“Buongiorno Claudio, sono il tecnico di riparazione qui al Signal Hound. Per fortuna io parlo Italiano e cosi’ ti posso fornire una risposta (Ho visitato Italia per due anni come un missionario, quindi, se volevo insegnare o conversare con gli Italiani, dovevo per forza imparare l’Italiano! Vero?!). Comunque, qui ce un link dove puoi trovare la nuova programma, si chiama SPIKE:
https://signalhound.com/spike/
Grazie mille! “
Justin CrooksModeratorRoger,
What application do you use the trace math for? We’ve been discussing how to implement it in a robust, maintainable way. Would something like (Trace 1 – Trace 2 – offset), shown on the same graticule work for you?
KB0NEParticipantHi,
Loving the new Software.Did notice one minor GUI bug: When resizing the window, my left hand column of DB numbers on the spectrum display get their font boogered up, as if trying to redraw the same numbers over themselves.
John
Justin CrooksModeratorKBONE, thank you for the bug report. I’ll see if we can duplicate it. Do you mind sharing details about your CPU and GPU so we can try to duplicate it?
AndyParticipantSomething has just struck me – do we not get to select the TG output level in scalar analysis? The TG level is setable in manual TG controls, but I can’t find any for scalar sweeps.
KB0NEParticipantHi,
Here are some screen shots showing the spectrum screen messing up. This problem seems to be very intermittent and varys from time to time. The CPU is an Intel Pentium dual core CPU B950 @ 2.1 GHz, 4 G ram (laptop w/ 64 bit windows 7 Home Premium.)
GPU says Intel HD graphics family. 1366X768 1.6 g of memory reserved.
Don’t know if that is enough info. I am wired up to run 2 monitors but the problem is on the main screen; haven’t tried the other lower res screen yet.

Hi Justin,
Yes something like that would work. I use it to remove offsets which are not uniform. E.g. the IF output of my HF radio does not have a flat noise floor and I could flatten it by removing a saved trace done with the antenna disconnected.I though it could be added as extra options in the trace type combo – subtract trace x or add trace x, and then you need another combo to select ‘x’.
If you added another trace type called ‘constant’ then you can do trace 2 – trace 1 – offset, by linking the traces together.
Cheers,
Roger

Ciao Claudio! Grazie. Ciao!
AndrewModeratorHi KBONE,
Thank you for the feedback and images. It is much appreciated. This is an issue that we are aware of, and a couple of other users have reported this behavior as well. We will be attempting a fix for this within the next couple of weeks and hopefully it will resolve the issue.
Regards,
A.J.
AndyParticipantv3.02 installed without fuss and the JPG issue is resolved. Thanks!
AnonymousInactiveHi Cory. I am very happy that the software has finally been updated for the Signal hound. Our company uses it daily to test our products and I can confirm that the Spike software runs all day and does not have the frustration of the previous software version that continuously lost the USB connecton when using the TG44A. I would however like to suggest that the markers are not really very usable as we measure filters and amplifier bandwidth and need to know either the 3dB or 10dB points. I notice that the markers on Spike can no longer have the frequency entered manually. I would suggest that a marker function for measuring bandwidth that automatically puts two markers either side of a centre marker, ( 3 markers ) on the screen, and then the centre marker frequency can be dragged or a frequency entered manually be considered. You need to add at least 3 markers to measure the peak plus 3dB or 10dB points for say a filter. I would also have a setting to set the bandwidth markers for whatever -dB level you want as some may want 3dB or 10dB or other for BW.
