Hello,
I cannot connect my SA44B, Spike popup me a “Device not found” on start.
My SA44B is in Spike connect menu but if i click it, same popup. What can i do please ?Configuration : Windows 10 64, last version of Spike, drivers installed as admin
AndrewModeratorHello facotl,
Is the LED on the device solid green? Have you tried a different usb port? When the device is plugged in, check under the device manager->Universal Serial Bus Controllers tab and you should see “USB Serial Converter A” and B. If they are there, right click -> Properties. Under the advanced tab, ensure the “Load VCP” checkbox is not selected.
Also, is this the first computer you have tried? If it is possible to try on another computer, it would help rule out certain issues, like a bad cable/hardware.
Let’s start with this, I look forward to your response.
Regards,
A.J.
facotlParticipantOk i found.
Uncheck “Mettre en œuvre un port COM virtuel” (in french, sorry) for USB Serial Converter A and B.
Thank you for your help
AnonymousInactiveI also cannot connect my SA44b. I see USB converter A & B but the properties window does not have an advanced tab.
I am running Windows10 Pro v1703
It works fine on my other laptop, also Windows10 home.
AndrewModeratorHi Causilgey,
I just verified that on Windows 10 Pro the Load VCP checkbox is still present for the Serial Converter A/B USB entries. If you do not see them or the advanced tab, I would wonder if you have installed the USB drivers on the Win10 machine? You can find the installer on the Spike download page or in the installation directory on your PC.
Take a look at the FAQ on the Spike download page, https://signalhound.com/spike/ See the question titled, “The Spike software reports “Device Not Found” (SA44/SA124/TG44/TG124 only)”. Follow the troubleshooting steps there.
If you are still unable to get the device working, contact me directly at aj at signalhound dot com.

Andrew
AnonymousInactivei just bought this Thinkpad X240 with a view to upgrading to a BB60 but unfortunately it doesn’t appear to power my SA44 as I get an orange flashing LED. I have followed driver installation instructions but right clicking on USB coverter A and B does not give me an advanced tab and therefore cannot change the Load VCP check box.
I have a feeling that I have just waisted my money on a laptop that cannot run tha analyser from either USB port and therfore will definately not run the BB60.
AndrewModeratorHello Causilgey,
Just to clarify, you have to go into the properties menu to find the advanced tab after right clicking on the Converter A/B items?
Please contact us via email for additional troubleshooting. Please email me at aj at signalhound dot com. Additionally please CC justin at signalhound dot com. We will help you determine the source of your issue.
The X240 is capable of running the SA44 and BB60.

Andrew
AttilaTheHunParticipantI’ve got a similar problem. I have two Windows 10 machines. My SA44B works just fine on one, but I can’t run it on the other. I’m getting a “Device Connection Issues Detected, Ensure the device is connected before opening again via File Menu” message from Spike. Interestingly, the File/Connect menu lists my device SA44/124: 3000329.

The Device Manager data looks the same on both computers, so I’m suspicious of Windows settings, especially any related to the virtual com port.I’ve also shutdown any antivirus software.
Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

AndrewModeratorHello Bruce,
On the PC where you are seeing the issue, how long is the device running in the software before you see this error message? Does it happen immediately/after a few seconds/a couple times of day?
Are you using the same USB cable for all your tests? If not, it might be worth trying a USB cable you know works on another PC.
You can try changing the PC power management options. Go to “Power Options” in the control panel and change your power management settings to “High Performance”. On Windows 10 this might require a few extra clicks to show the “High Performance” option.
At any point did the device work on this PC? Or did it start having issues after a Windows update?
Regards,
Justin CrooksModeratorI don’t know if this will help, but making sure the driver is up to date may help. FTDI puts out a nice guide with some helpful troubleshooting tips: http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documents/InstallGuides/AN_396%20FTDI%20Drivers%20Installation%20Guide%20for%20Windows%2010.pdf
AttilaTheHunParticipantAndrew and Justin,
Thanks for your help. I upgraded the driver from 2.12.24 to 2.12.26 in accordance with FTDI’s instructions and verified that I’m using a good USB cable. Windows is in High Performance mode.
When I connect the SA44B to the USB port I get a Windows message “USB Device Not Recognized – The last device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it” The LED on the front of the SA44B flashes orange every once in a while and is off the rest of the time. I have tried this with multiple USB ports on the computer with the same results. I’m now seeing a problem before even opening Spike.
Now here is where it gets strange. If I connect the SA44B to my computer through a cheap USB hub the SA44B LED is solid green and USB Serial Converter A/B show up in the Device Manager. No complaints from Windows. Spike attempts to connect with the SA44B (Connecting to Device, wait 6 sec message along with installation bar). That ends without any error messages. About 6 sec after the Connecting to Device message disappears Spike announces that there is no device connected. I can see my SA44B listed in the File/Connect menu.
It would seem that my computer is unable to keep up with the SA44B (I’m assuming that the USB hub is slowing everything down). The computer is about two years old (newer than the computer that the SA44B does run on). I don’t believe that I’ve ever had the SA44B running on this machine.
Thanks for your help,
Bruce
Justin CrooksModeratorBruce,
If you have not rebooted your computer since installing the driver, try that first. If you have, we can try the CDM uninstaller, to remove any history of the SA44B and get a fresh start.http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/CDMUninstaller_v1.4.zip
Unplug the SA44B, and then run the CDMUninstallerGUI
Use VID = 0403, PID = 6010, then click “Add” then “Remove Devices”
Plug in your SA44B and wait 3 minutes. Watch the LED. It should turn green once the driver finishes installing.
Let me know if this helps.
AttilaTheHunParticipantAndrew,
I followed the steps. I’m now seeing Device Manager continually rescanning for hardware and not finding anything.
Earlier I saw the message “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I also installed the same hardware/software on my wife’s computer (new Windows 10 machine) and everything worked flawlessly.
It might be possible to hook a scope across the data lines. Would that be worth anything?
Thanks again for your help.
Bruce
gmdusaParticipantMy error message says, “cannot connect to internet” and then no device connected. But yet I can connect to internet. Please help.
AndrewModeratorHello gmdusa,
Email me at aj@signalhound.com with the serial number and model number of your device. If you have an older device (with no internal flash) then it is trying to pull the cal file from our server, but sounds like it is hanging up on the network request for some reason. I can send it to you directly. Once it’s on your system, that message should go away.
