Field Spectrum Analysis

Working with a spectrum analyzer in the field requires that the device be lightweight, portable, and most importantly—capable. You need a tool that gets out of the way fast and provides you with lots of data in a comprehensive, easy-to-use format. If field spectrum analysis or interference hunting is in your job description, then you need to take a look at a Signal Hound.

Why use a Signal Hound for Field Spectrum Analysis?

Economical

With costs nearly 7x lower than comparable devices, high-performance at this price is unheard of. Now you don't have to worry about packing your $15,000 analyzer around in the field.

Advanced

Utilizing cutting-edge components and highly-optimized software, Signal Hound spectrum analyzers can deliver unbelievably detailed and comprehensive data via a simple user interface.

Portable

Weighing in at just over one pound, a Signal Hound spectrum analyzer fits right in the palm of your hand, and is light enough and small enough to be fitted to your interference hunting or field setup with negligible physical impact.

Supported

We love our products, and we know you will too. We want you to be successful with your device no matter where you are, so we offer our customers full support as fast as we are able.

Used by Industry Experts Scott Baxter & Associates for Field Spectrum Analysis

Scott Baxter, wireless industry expert and CEO of Nashville-based consulting firm Scott Baxter & Associates, uses Signal Hound spectrum analyzers in his company’s interference hunting processes. The capability and cost of Signal Hound devices play a role in Baxter’s decision to utilize the spectrum analyzers.

“The BB60C is certainly an innovation in the rise of SDR technology and the price/performance ratio is an order of magnitude better than for lab instruments from the major manufacturers” said Baxter.

What can a Signal Hound do for you?

Track down and capture interfering signals with real-time mode.

Our real-time mode, combined with a directional antenna, will capture and display even the shortest bursts of RF interference, every time.

Characterize and verify your existing system with channel power and occupied bandwidth monitoring.

Complex measurements are just a click away in our Spike software

Record spectrum events in the field, then analyze in the lab at a later time.

Our Spike software allows you to record spectrum, in real-time or swept mode, and even take snapshots of I/Q data for post-processing

Growing wireless devices produce RF signals, causing interference in a limited spectrum. Spectrum analyzers, vital for measuring signal amplitudes, manage interference in device-rich environments. This white paper highlights the role of RF analyzers in critical applications like military communications and wireless telemetry.

Field Spectrum Analysis Use Case: Travelling around the South Pacific

Network Engineer Roly Runciman works for Rhemia Media, based in Wellington, New Zealand. Roly loves using his Signal Hound, as lugging around his full-size spectrum analyzer was putting a kink in his work travels. Roly states:

“It performed exceptionally well in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea on my recent trip there. The real nice thing is that I did not need to cart my R&S Spec An. through the jungles of PNG nor try to talk my way onto Aircraft with 35Kg of Equipment just for one box. Along with a PicoScope I was able to take onboard with me my Laptop, Spec An, Scope all in one bag with no hassles.”

These images are of Roly’s work environment in Paupa New Guinea.

Craig Stone, Technician at Seacoast Utility Authority says:

My company uses radio telemetry with its lift stations and other remote stations. Sometimes a remote radio gets stuck in transmit and blocks communications with all the other radios. I can drive around the service area with the Signal Hound and quickly find the bad radio.

Powerful and affordable USB-spectrum analysis in the field? You bet.
